Here’s the first some a few “catch-up” posts I want to do, to go over some books I read before I revived this blog
2024 was a great year in books. I finally was able to up the number of books I read, but more than that, I read some pretty amazing books throughout the year. Whether it was through book clubs, booktok or just the desire to read more Brandon Sanderson, fantasy definitely took the front seat. But I mixed in a good amount of sci-fi (which technically is also fantasy) and mystery in there. Let’s go through some fun little highlights from 2024 books

First and Last Pages

The first books of the year included listening to Agatha Christie’s The Moving Finger while also reading the massive, The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson, starting off my Stormlight Archive journey
The year ended with continuing a great little sci-fi series I discovered earlier in the year with Martha Wells’ Artificial Condition, the second book in The Murderbot Diaries
Personal Favorites

A Day of Fallen Night was Samantha Shannon’s prequel to her bestselling book, The Priory of the Orange Tree. And in my opinion, this book was far better than Priory with it’s action and characters. I read most of its rather large length in a single day.
Words of Radiance is arguably one of the best books I’ve ever read and is widely considered Brandon Sanderson’s crown jewel of his Stormlight Archive. It has so many epic moments and an amazing ending to tie it all together. It also explores more of the backstory of Shallan, my favorite character in the series.
The Sword of Kaigen by M. L. Wang was all over my book recommendations on TikTok. And I can see why. It was beautifully written, with some of the most intensely choregraphed action scenes and complex, well-developed characters. I was completely hooked by this book from start to finish and still think about it today.
You’d Look Better as a Ghost by Joanna Wallace is an odd one in this list. Not only is it not a big high fantasy book, with a deep story, it is on this list simply because I was quite entertained by this book throughout. And I loved the main character, Claire, the psychopathic serial killer.
